By announcing support for the DCSA Track and Trace standard, Chain.io is creating an opportunity for freight forwarders and shippers to begin direct API based carrier communications directly into their existing TMS solutions.

March 2, 2020, PHILADELPHIA and AMSTERDAM, Chain.io has announced support for the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) open standard for Track and Trace.

By announcing support for the DCSA Track and Trace standard, Chain.io is creating an opportunity for freight forwarders and shippers to begin direct API based carrier communications directly into their existing TMS solutions.

“As we’ve seen in other modes of transportation, industry standards are a great first step towards streamlining communications,” shared Brian Glick, Chain.io’s CEO. “Unfortunately, it can take years for those standards to work their way into legacy TMS and ERP solutions. By making the Chain.io platform DCSA compliant, forwarders and shippers will be able to take advantage of these carrier interfaces as soon as they are available.”

One challenge that many companies can face when adopting new standards is maintaining and updating their connectivity as the standards progress and evolve over time. Forwarders and shippers who integrate via the Chain.io platform will be shielded from this complexity as Chain.io manages the connectivity and upgrade cycles with each participating carrier.

“At DCSA, we’re excited to bring our open standards to as many industry players as possible,” added Thomas Bagge, CEO of DCSA. “By Chain.io embracing the DCSA Track and Trace standards it helps to accelerate adoption today and maintain connectivity into the future to a wide range of stakeholders from the largest global shippers down to the smallest local freight forwarders.”

Chain.io will begin integration with the DCSA Track and Trace model found at https://dcsa.org/initiatives/data-and-interfaces/ and will expand to other data models as they are adopted by the DCSA member ocean carriers.
